How do I get my baby (sibling) love birds to come to / love me?
I brought them home a week ago. I was advised to keep them in separate cages So that they would cling to me rather than each other. It was the hardest thing to watch them cry for their sibling. They are still scared to death when I reach my hand into the cage. I know it’s only been a week but I want to gain their trust so soon that they want to be my companions. Any advice? Should I let them get used to their new environment before I try taking them out again?
Awwww. . . So cute! Anyway, you should put some seeds or whatever they eat into your hand, and let them eat it from there. Let them do their thing, and wait and after about a week, start petting them while they do it. After that you can put them out of their cage on your finger. It’s very easy to get them on your finger, just gently put your finger under their bellies and they will horizontally do the rest. Hope I helped, and goodluck with the love birds! : D
i suggest you befriend ajs bird breeder on facebook chats they have to help you with problems you have with your birds and can assist you to training your birds. they are a bird breeder and have been for years handleing birds
My first pair of lovebirds were siblings. I never separated them until they got older and began to fight with each other when they hit puberty. They would follow me around like little puppies and would come when I would whistle. You need to gain their trust before you even try to take them out of the cage. Let them get used to the environment for a few days. Start off by just sitting in the room with them, you can read a book, listen to music, or just sit there but the best thing is to talk in a soft, calm voice to them. Do this for a few days then move closer and closer until Gradually you can sit beside their cage and they do not freak out. Once they get used to you being close to the cage, you can start to try and finger train them. Slowly stick your hand in the cage, do not try to grave let them just set it there. Do this until they get used to the idea. It could take several weeks. Just like the chair you can start to slowly and i mean slow, almost no moments because they will see that as a threat, move it near the bird. Pretty soon they will get used to it and they will begin investigating what your finger is. They are very curious birds, fun little clowns. Most of this depend on the bird, I’ve had some birds did the day I bring them home they are clinging to the door wanting to come out and sit on my shoulder and I’ve had some birds that it takes months for them to trust me. Give these little guys some time and trust me the wait will be worth it. If you need any other info check out this wonderful website.
