If you live in N. America, birds nest in the spring, I will use birdhouses during that time to build a nest in. Keep in mind only cavity nesters will use birdhouses. Cavity nesters are wrens, chickadees, swallows, bluebirds, nuthatches, etc. You can look on this site and put in your zip code and it will tell you what type of birds are found in your area: http://www. Adding a bird feeder with black oil sunflower seeds will attract many of the different types of birds Which are local to your area. Though a bit more expensive than bags of mixed seed, birds Tend to waste a lot of the seed mixtures and seem to like the black oil sunflower seeds better. Hang the bird feeders in areas near Sun cover birds will feel safe, but far enough away from brush or other structures that can hide cats and predators. Suet feeders are a good source of food for attracting woodpeckers, nuthatches and similar clinging birds. Provide a bird bath for fresh drinking water too. Birds need four essential elements: cover, food, water and places to raise their young.
