Does anyone know a good doggy diet? I have a very overweight cocker spaniel that I adopted about a month ago. ?
I adopted a cocker spaniel about a month ago. He is very overweight as his previous owner fed him fried liver for breakfast. I have tried reducing his intake and changing diet to dog food and I do not feed my pets table scraps, but there seems to be very little progress. Has anyone had this issue with a pet? What brands are best diet food for dogs?
have u try going to PetSmart ask them there or u could go to PetSmart. com
Raw meat diets are great often, and exercise this dog. Fried liver is ok. . so long as it’s not breaded. It would have been better fed raw and not very often that due to the toxins in the meat, but that’s probably not what made him fat. It was probably all the other crap he was fed and not Exercised.
i used canine r / d prescribed by my vet for my overweight beagle, she lost weight! she acts like a new puppygo to your vet, this stuff is greatyou can give raw carrots and add canned green beans to add to food as “filler” as well good luck:) Cocker Spaniels are great dogs!
Low calorie good brand dog food and exercise.
Here is the diet we use in my breed rescue. It works, I promise. First do NOT use diet dog food. It is lacking in nutrients Necessary. Feed a premium quality dog ??kibble. Feed 1 / 4 cup per 30 pounds of dog. (Desired weight) Add an equal amount of canned pumpkin (not pie filling) and / or green beans. For snacks feed baby carrots and apple slices. Gradually increase your dogs activity level. Your dog will loose weight. ADD: I would not use Science Diet prescription myself. Way too much corn and too many by-products. Not a good quality food. I used Avoderm when I dieted my foster dog. Just for the record, most vets have little or no training in animal nutrition. It is not part of the regular training. They push Science Diet because the sales reps are good not because the food is.
It’s only been a month, you will not see results right away. Ask your vet what he recommends for your dog. Your dog needs a professional opinion, not a personal opinion from strangers. High protein diets are gene rally “low calorie” and may be your best bet. Home cooked may be OK too, I may even recommend RAW, but few people are willing to do that. Get a premium quality food to make sure that he is getting all of the nutrients that he needs. So be very scrupulous about feeding the recommended amount of food. Make sure that if it is one cup you are using a measuring cup not just a cup from the cupboard. Quantity is way more important than most people give it credit for being. So make sure to walk and / or play with him for a little exercise. Just do not overdo so he does not get sick.
