How do I know what kind of cocker spaniel I have?

She’s only 3 months old, and I cannot tell if she’s an English or an American Cocker Spaniel. To start with, she has a really unique color for a cocker spaniel. Plus she has one blue eye and brown the other is. Here’s a picture: http://i107. photobucket. com/albums/m313/fairyoflust/n1469661043_30216505_1923. jpgThey told me at the pet store (Petland) that she was full cocker spaniel. . . . She was 1,200, but I bought her on sale:)

She is a crossbreed, and judging by the color of her ears she has some Collie in her as she is a Blue Merle. If both her parents were merle then she may have a hearing problem so get her checked. I hope some BYB did not sell her to you as a spaniel of Cockersomethingorother? In any case she is cute and hope you have a long happy companionship with her. EDIT: Sorry to say that if this pet store were in the UK they could be sued under the Trade Descriptions Act for falsely claiming she is a purebred cocker spaniel. As one person has her Described as a cocker x brittany, that is not correct as the gene does not Merling Occurs in any of the purebred spaniels, it does Occurs in Collie breeds. Please do not let this disappoint you now that you have her, love her for whatshe is and the joy she will bring to you, but learn from this for any future pets you may wish to get.

She is a very cute puppy, but I’m sorry. . . . she is not a pure bred Cocker Spaniel. Yes, she may have been very expensive, but to tell you the truth, pet store puppies come from puppy mills. These puppy mills are located all around the country and this is where pet store puppies come from. If you do not know what a puppy mill is I’ll tell you. People keep dogs in cages stacked stored in small rooms. They breed over thousands of dogs to sell puppies to pet the little stores for money. They do not feed them properly or socialize them. That is why almost all the dogs that come from pet stores have behavioral and health issues and are given up to shelters. In the end they are euthanized. I am a strong supporter of pet puppy mills stopping and I want to continue educating people about animals store. When you adopt you do not only save the life of a precious animal in a shelter, so you save the lives thousands of puppies that could have been born in a puppy mill. Please consider adoption first! Here is a picture of a Brittany spaniel. After observing the picture of your puppy, I have come to the conclusion that your puppy is a mix breed between a Cocker Spaniel and a Brittany Spaniel. Here is a picture I found of a Brittany spaniel. http://www. flickr. com/photos/techieguru/8951875/You can see a similarity between the to puppies. Both have similar ear structure and muzzle. I hope just not in the future you want to purchase another puppy from a pet store. It is a lot less expensive adopting and you know the puppy you adopt is going to be healthy, up to date on shots, and may have some training completed.
