Which kind of dog is more child-friendly? A pit bull or a cocker spaniel?

I have gotten a lot of mixed answers on this. Rayven, I can not believe you actually answered this.

  1. The Greek Says:

Either one if you train them.

  2. YouKnowsIt. Says:

cocker spaniel. Pitbulls are rather angry, so to speak.

  3. Bells : Says:

Child – friendly dog: The one that comes from a terrific breeder that takes into consideration the temperament, genetics, and health of the dogs that he / she “intends to breed. The one that has been socialized, trained, and supervised kids around from an early age. BREED is NOT important.

  4. Rayven ~ Here we Go Again Says:

Depends. Which one has the better temperament has been trained and socialized properly and Which is around the well behaved child. I grew up around both. My mother bred Cocker’s, my uncle bred APBTs. I was never ask by dogs of either breed nor were any of my cousins ??or our friends. It’s less to do with breed and more to do with the owners involved. ETA: More like you are surprised I simply did not go spouting off about “spaniel rage” which actually never had anything to do with the ACS breed.

  5. Alex Says:

I’ve never had a cocker spaniel but my pit bull is well trained and gets along great with all kids. . . it would be ignorant not to realize that a pit bull is much more dangerous than a cocker spaniel though, Which is why i do not leave Peaches alone with a child no matter how well behaved she is. . . i do not know how well trained the kids are.

  6. Chris Minniti Says:

what bells said. no breed is born not liking kids.

  7. ČĤĨĞĨŔĹ *The Nose, Knows* Says:

hmmm. . now you’re just being silly. . . . My answer-one that has been bred and trained correctly. I have personally seen more friendly than I have pits Cockers. However people with small children who do not have the time or knowledge to properly handle a pit bull, should not have one. . . especially around their child. Responsible people know what they are doing. . . ignorant dumb @ sses Do not. & If someone is really irresponsible they should not have any dog ??or child for that matter. . . .

  8. Jayse Ö Think before you breed Says:

The one that is carefully bred, carefully reared, well socialized and properly trained. ?

  9. william a Says:

You are crazy if you trust your child with a pit bull terrier. I wish I had saved all of the newspaper items that tell of attacks and deaths of children by pit bull terriers.

  10. BMTHESPIAN Says:

Depends on the breeding and training. A well bred member of either breed (who has the proper temperament for the breed) and has been properly trained would do well with children. That said no dog regardless of breed should be left unattended with a small child

  11. T J Says:

There is a lot of junk around in both breeds, so I would have to know the dog before I would allow a child of mine in the same room with either one.

  12. Victoria Says:

Any friendly, well-trained dog is a good dog for kids.

  13. wonder biscuit Says:

there both child-friendly it all depends on how you train do not believe the rumors that pit bulls are evil they can very loveable dogs if you abuse it then yes although a pit bull is probably better cocker spaniels are scared of children (not all ) because their move so quickily but if you train them well enough they should get along quite well it all depends on how well its trained. however if they are scared just let get used to being around children buy letting them pat and cuddle then try leaveing ??them alone and see how they get on good luck

  14. Andrew McIntyre Says:

definitely more dependent on how it is trained. But you can read on any website that pit bulls are one of the most family-friendly dogs there are. Pit bulls love people and children even more. Not to say cocker spaniels, do not. Pit bulls’ rep has been ruined from the dumb-axx owners that fight them. Though excited to pit bull is stronger than in excited cocker spaniel. I think pit bulls have the tendency to push and swat at who they’re playing with a cocker spaniel Whereas would want to nibble / nip a little bit more. Either way will take some careful training. There is no such thing as a child-proof dog – remember that

  15. Dan Says:

Honestly, all else being equal and both dogs seem friendly, i would be more likely to allow my child to play with a cocker spaniel than a pitbull with. It’s simply because I know I can easily overpower a spaniel. But a pitbull is much harder to fight if something goes wrong. A pitbull can do more damage before I can rescue my child. If you ask me poodle or Labrador, I would say the smaller dog so I can easily pick up is safer.

First of all i must say there is no animal that is ‘child friendly’ per say. it is all in the matter of training the animal to your expectation. i work at a Vet Clinic in Jamaica and we have had a number of different cases with all sort of animals. To answer your question, a cocker spaniel is somewhat aggressive breed of dog to. Sometimes owners will report cases where the dog will snap at them, etc. On the other hand the pit bull is a less aggressive and in my opinion, more child friendly. it is best to do you research and see what suits you best. pit bulls are best.

  18. Cougar Death Says:

neither are that great. two much inbreeding. but if your want to get a large insurance policy on the child that you would like to claim. go with the pit bull

  19. mALiSSa[<3′s hunger games Says:

cocker spaniel ive heard great things about them but if you train the pit bull it can be great and great they are both great with protection
